Google recently announced that it is raising the price of its G Suite subscriptions for the first time in almost a decade. In 2007 the company introduced a premium package consisting of their productivity tools for businesses coined G Suite.
G Suit includes Gmail, Hangouts & Calendar for communication, Drive for storage; Sheets, Docs, Slides, Forms, and Sites for collaboration; and an admin panel and vault for managing users and services. These apps have always been free for users but with added features such as custom email address at a domain and much more, the G Suite has become a mainstay for businesses of all sizes.
It was inevitable that this day would come, given the pace of innovation and elevation over the years. The value of G Suite has definitely increased but the prices have remained unchanged. With reference to this particular context, they have announced that the prices of G Suite Basic and Business will be increasing to $6 and $ 12 respectively, while the price of G Suite Enterprise remains the same at $25, further increase in the prices will be adjusted according to the local region, currency, and market.
Even though the price increase will go into effect on April 2, 2019; the ones who have opted for an annual plan will have to pay new prices only after the expiry of the current programme.
The price change is also in line with the recent developments taking place at Google Cloud, namely the taking over of Thomas Kurain as the CEO and the aggressive strategy that Google has opted for to compete with Microsoft’s Office Suite.
The company in its arguments says that it has added plenty of new tools and services to the platform since it launched its first paid services back in 2006. Though it seems like a fair argument, a 20 percent increase in price may be a big deal for small businesses.
